'Mac' SHIFT & arrows keystroke

I'm running the Mac version. Is there any way I can slow down the 'velocity' of the SHIFT & arrow command? (Orbiting an object I think it is?)

Are there scripts available to be able to do this at different velocities?

I'm trying to match the velocity of the other commands, roll, yaw, pitch etc. (which can all be adjusted with different scripting I believe).

Hey Ben... I wondered the same thing. The shift+arrow command jumps too much at one time and is kinda stuttery, right?

One way around it is to use the option+mouse button+mouse method of orbiting (hold down the option key, then press the mouse button and move the mouse). It's the exact same functionality as the orbiting shift+arrow command but smoother. In fact, I was doing it that way first before I discovered the option+arrow orbiting method.

(Not sure if the option-mouse version is Mac specific or not FYI for others reading this...)

Also, you might try modifying the celestia.cfg file (in the Celestia Resources folder). You can just drag-and-drop the file in TextEdit (or, if you know how, change the "Open With" option in the Get Info box to ALWAYS open with TextEdit).

There is a tweakable paramenter in there somewhere for RotateAcceleration which "defines the speed at which an object will be rotated in Celestia, when using a keypress". There are more instructions in there about what the parameter changes.. I played with it just once... not enough to see if it worked on the keypress - though it seemed to definitely change my mouse-speed.

Anyhoo, the celestia.cfg file is just a simple text document with numbers you can easily edit. Just make sure, if you're not too familiar with this method of parameter-tweaking, you keep a back-up copy in case you accidentally screw anything up.

Hope that helps.

Thank you kindly Steven,

I'm trying to get something smoother and more sustained than I can do with the mouse ... at least with my shaky hand.

I'll see what I can do with the celestia.cfg file. I remember way back tweaking it for all the other parameters, yaw, roll, pitch etc. Somehow I missed the SHIFT arrow combination.

I'll let you know if it works.

Thanks again,

Ben
