It shoud'nt be a too hard task to add a render option which enable
a stereo view in Celestia.
You can let the eyes distance to be autamatically setted depending
on the distance of the selected object, or hardly defined by hand.
Stereo view can definitely get the observer INSIDE the space.... 8O

Sorry for posting twice, I wanted not to replya to another post, but add a new topic

I have done lots of pre-rendered stereo work, it could be sweet.

Just an FYI,

If you have a Geforce2 or higher, you can download Nvidia's stereo drivers. I have tried them and they do work rather well. I makes docking the shuttle in Orbiter a lot easier. Shrox, your models make a fabulous addition. Thanks.

I don't think a stereo view should make the simulation more realistic.... after all, distances in space are so huge that your eyes should be km distant to see a significant parallax...
But it's true, it would a stereo effect would be visible when you are very close to a planet or satellite....

Sure, you are right if you can not enlarge the eyes' distance,
or (with the same effect) if you can not scale down all
the dimensions of the universe.
If it's possibile to have such a God's point of view, probabily
we loose a "realistic" view, but I guess it's an amazing view.

"...makes docking the shuttle in Orbiter a lot easier..." What are you
referring to - there's a way to control Shuttle or ISS in Celestia?

A few years ago I went to a small airport and took an introductory flight for about $35. I took off, flew and landed the plane while the instructor just rode along. She couldn't believe I had never flown a plane before. I have played so many fight sims the realworld 3D perspective made the real thing easier than a sim.
