Screenshot Contest for March 2005

by jgrillo2002
Hi. I know that it's early, but this is the first time that I host a Screenshot contest for celestia, so I got it started early this time. they do this at the Orbiter community too.
Here are the Rules:
1.) You can use any addon in celestia including science fiction.
2.) You can use only 640 x 800, 800 x 400, 1024 x 768 to get good details of the picture. One side note that if you are going to use these resolutions, you must use Thumbnailing. If you dont know how to use Thumbnailing, Selden posted instructions for doing that at
http://www.shatters.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=6844
In order to submit your screenshot, you must find a image hosting service. the best one that I have seen is Image Shack
http://www.imageshack.us.
3.) Please be fair to other's work
4.) When voting occurs, please do not vote for yourself, it causes errors on counting to see who is the real winner.
5.) No editing is allowed such as Photoshop with pictures. when not edited, it bring the true feeling of the pictures
6.) Have Fun
These rules will be apply on the following months to come so....
Good Luck
and
Good Hunting

Maybe we could add a requirement:
all participants should add a cel link to the view + link to any requirements needed to see exactly the same view in Celestia (textures, add-ons, and so on..).
So people can check the picture comes really from Celestia (not modified with photoshop) AND people can have the pleasure to play with a nice view in Celestia.

While the cel:// link is a good idea, I think there are differences between the various versions of Celestia in the way that the coordinate systems work (I think it is to do with the accuracy of trig functions across different platforms). In addition some people may be running with stars placed slightly differently (I use a file which places Sol at the origin of the coordinate system for accuracy's sake, rather than the default displaced position which is there for backwards-compatibility's sake).

Also they might use add-ons that you probly don't have or they have created them themsevles. Use cel links for solar system or common add-ons.

I think there should be a time limit for submissions (let's say the 15th of march), and then someone could create a new poll, so that we can easily vote from until the end of the month.

the voting for these contests uses the poll. I make a new topic for the poll. im not sure it would be nessecary for using Cels but if you want, go ahead

Just a reminder:
I have a list of cel-URLs on my site along with screenshots. Not all screenshots show the intended scene because not all necessary Addons were installed when I create the screenshots, but you may still find some interesting views. And of course the screenshots can't show the dynamic nature of some URLs (i.e. a sunrise, a passing by moon, etc.), so trying the URLs is recommended - just click on the images.
The page is here:

I am not really a competitive person, but I am quite proud of this picture (I generally process Celestia images a little bit before they go on the
Orion's Arm site to show rocket exhaust and so on, but this one is untouched).
