Star Navigation

Post #1by terrorbyte » 23.01.2005, 21:50

a question from a non-astro physicist 8O :

how would you navigate to a star that is defined within Ursa Major with these coordinates:

RA9H39M 12.32s D52 Degrees, 2'31.10

I won't be too disappointed if nobody knows the answer . . .

Define a star in that location on the sky
and then look toward it, turning up the magnification.

HIP 47376 (aka HD 83300 or SAO 27327) seems to be the star nearest that location that Celestia knows about.

Code: Select all

# UMA9.STC

Star "UMA9" {
RA 144.8013  #RA9H39M 12.32s
Dec 52.04197 #D52 Degrees, 2'31.10

Distance 100

SpectralType "O1"
AbsMag 0.1
}

p.s. I turned off the "Sticky" bit. Please don't use it when asking questions. ...s.
