solarsys.ssc - dumb question

Hello all,

Apologies for this seemingly dumb question, but I'm trying to work out how best to use the three texture directories (lores, medres & hires) for add-on textures.

How does solarsys.ssc know where to find planetary textures? The path is not fully defined (e.g. Texture "mimas.jpg") and yet there are three possible locations.

Thanks - this is truly an amazing simulation !

My take on this is that the *.scc file doesn't actually know what texture folder is in use. I think it is hard coded into Celestia, pressing "r" reduces the textures one folder and pressing "shift+R" puts it up one folder. I just put all my replacement textures into the med res anyway ( once I know they work fine).

Thanks & one last question

Thanks, this actually makes sense to me (I didn't realise you could change textures on the fly using "r"). The three directories are just arbitrary locations for texture files.

Any recommendations on sites where one can download higher quality planetary textures ?

Check the new textures forum, there will be links to places hosting high resolution textures
