Let me explain.
I would really like to see this feature added as it would help me enormously to visualise the current sky for a given longitude and latitude.
The premise is this: I use gotolonglat quite alot but am frustrated that I have to rotate the view 180 and manually go down to atmosphere level for said long/lat to get a view of the sky. What i propose is a method to rotate the view 180 and drop down to sea level (or whatever is appropriate) to get a view of the current sky from any given location.
Does this make sense at all

Yep, if I read you right, you should be able to achieve what you want to do with any version of Celestia from 1.3.1 onwards.
After you've selected your longitude and latitude and set your distance to zero (or any other value- it doesn't really matter), then press ctrl G and you will be transferred to a view of the horizon, from the surface, at the exact location you specified. Here you can alter your view of the sky with the arrow keys.
