I recently downloaded the Deep Sky Tour 1.0 and I wonder if we will have some kind of update.
I get 20 DSOs working.
But I downloaded M27(Dumbbell Nebula) and unzip to Celestia root,but the DST tour didn?t search for it.
I also unable to put NGC 2237 in the Deep Sky Tour.
I know that there is predefined list of objects.I would like to know which catalogue I have to download to have these(and possible others) in the tour.
I remember that maybe at least M27 was in the tour,but I didn?t know how I get this?
Can someone help me?

Ever thought of looking a little into the script yourself, adapting some commands to your liking and finally enjoying to create the Deep Sky Tour 2.0??;-)

I was only asking.I didn?t mean to offen you.Besides,I don?t know anything about programming and script edit.
I am asking such things,because as you could remember,my last Celestia 1.3.2 installation was destroyed and I had to start from beggining

I just felt --given the time you apparently spend with Celestia-- it might be worth learning a little in addition, like how to modify cel scripts for example. Many people in this forum and elsewhere have learned to create or modify textures, write scripts etc.

Then you could erase the border lines in the Spain Vt's yourself and you could create a Space Tour version 2.0, just as you like it best;-) Would'nt that be great...?

And you might even create something for others in this community on and off, instead of always asking to have things done for you.

Funny, I've always felt that the best way to learn something is to ask about it.

It wouldn't exactly kill you to explain something, would it? Saying "go do it yourself" - particularly without giving much of a pointer for where to start - isn't going to encourage anybody to do anything. Plus it's fairly rude.

I will certainly not get back to that issue we had at length before.

If you want explanations from me, you will find plenty in this forum. Go to Physics and Astronomy, for example. I am certainly not the most lazy member here, despite --you bet-- I am much more busy than Mr. Danielj!

I may be rude on times (at least for anglo-saxon standards), but this time I think my preceding post is only fair!

After hundreds of posts Danielj wrote in this forum, asking others to correct something for him, he will certainly be able to find the script command documentation or simply look at some scripts and find out what the commands do. Think of the beautiful cel scripts our 'brain-dead' friend or numerous others accomplished without anybody helping to start...

This is an open source community and every long-time user/member can be expected to contribute his share in one way or another for the benefit of the project. Clearly, there are many ways besides programming...

Unfortunately --despite my rather complete record of danielj's posts-- there is little I can find from him besides complaints or 'more politely': requests to others.

If you don't like his posts, don't reply to them. As I said before, you should let someone else with evidently more patience than you deal with them, while you go off and answer something else. That way everyone's blood pressure stays down.

Plus, not everyone here is a programmer. Yes, the programming side of it is open-source, but that does not imply any obligation for every user or person commenting on these forums to contribute something to the program. Expecting that they should is unreasonable - some people just want to use the darn thing.

As you know very well I was by far not the only one getting upset about Danielj's continuously "requesting" attitude. That case is obviously special and not covered by your general "wise advice" above.

That's no excuse. If you don't like it, don't respond - let others who can handle it better than you respond instead. You're a smart guy, this concept surely cannot be that difficult for you to understand?

(I really hope you're not involved in scientific outreach, BTW. If your attitude here is anything to go by you'd be very good at putting people off science )

There is no obligation for anyone to contribute ANYTHING to Celestia. Some people just want to use it, and we shouldn't have a situation where they're put off from doing that.

Certainly though, if someone asks for help - no matter how annoying you think they are - they should be able to get answers to their questions. Otherwise they walk away with the impression that the community is unhelpful, which doesn't help to spread the good word about the program.

Locking this thread because it's clearly drifting off topic.
