Viewing the sky?

Is there any easy way to "sit" on a particular point on the surface of a body (say, Earth) and see what the sky looks like at a particular time? I've tried aiming myself at the desired point on Earth while in Sync Orbit mode, zooming in to about 3 meters off the ground, then using Look Back to turn around. If I expand the field of view, it kinda works, but in a very limited way. And I'm finding navigation difficult -- if I want to turn to find the sun or the horizon, movement occurs in jumps that are too large. Can I move in smaller steps? (I'm using the arrow keys.) Is there a way to turn the view left or right, or must I fly it like a flight simulator?
Any advice? Or is this sort of thing a little much to ask?
