DonG's retirement from Celestia

Post #1by alphap1us » 27.08.2004, 16:44

Hello everyone,

It is with great sadness that I announce DonG's retirement from the Celestia community. Don has worked tirelessly to document, organize and expand the Celestia universe, with his cel and celx scripts and guides, bug reporting and extensive work on the Motherlode. We all owe Don a great deal for his efforts. Unfortunately, he is having some extended health problems and the stress is just too much for him right now. If you know his email address and would like to drop him a note to let him know how much you appreciate his efforts, please do so, but please DON'T ask him to come back as that would not be a good thing for him personally.

We'll miss you Don.

Joe

Very sad to hear this.

Such is life.

A shame that I don't have his email address. Don personally helped me out quite a bit with placing my ArcBuilder add-ons onto the Motherlode, and his suggestions will serve to make the coming versions of these files well worth the effort of creating them.

Thanks Don, if you should see this. I appreciate your help more than I can say.

As do i. In addition to all his help and contributions on the forums, he has been a driving force on the Motherlode, devoting lots of time, doing great work. Much of what you all see there is thanks to Don. We?ll miss him.

Im sad to hear that these forums would cause anyone undue stress if thats the case. I surely hope not! I know I disagree with some viewpoints here from time to time and Fridger can testify at the countless times Ive mentioned leaving. Then I remember that its Celestia that Im here for and I in no way am out to please anyone with my addons...it just so happens I do from time to time...So if Don ever reads this and it is because of an arguement with another member please for God sake dont quit what you love to do because of anothers viewpoints!

If all of what I said is just daft and Im jumping to conclusions then nevermind...Im a moron :P

Don Take care...

Howdy Everyone,

Thank you for your kind words.

Actually, it's from Celestia projects that I am retiring ... for now. Don't think I'll ever be able to stop USING Celestia 8) , especially for some of the personal projects I'm working on (ie. digital video). I'm just switching into more of a "user mode", if you will.

So, I'll still be checking the forums every now and again, and offering assistance to other users when possible. It just won't be full-time anymore.

Cheers for now,
-Don G.

Don, take your time and care your health, that's the most important thing.
We know that you'll be with us anyhow, so we'll have the possibility (but only sometimes!) to ask you for help. 8)
Hope to have you fully with us in the next future, when everything will be solved. :D
This is my, no, this is OUR greeting.

What a CROCK!

All of this nonsense came about simply because Don was
KILLING himself trying to upgrade the MotherLode website.

He worked on the damned thing for over twelve hours each
day, and then got upset when Joe wanted to ignore his
efforts and take all of the credit for the updated site.

If I were Don, I'd have blown a gasket too. For those of you
who DON'T know about it, Don also has a multitude of
physical problems which he is always trying to ignore...

The stress, long hours and then absolutely no recognition
for his efforts are what blew his Celestia cork.

What the hell is the matter with you people? All Don needed
was a simple "Thanks for all your hard work." What he got was
ignored for his efforts. Shame on the Celestia community
for letting this happen.

I don't see any of the other MotherLode volunteers getting any
recognition for THEIR efforts either. Selden, Harry, Frank, Ulrich,
Runar? You guys are doing a MAGNIFICENT job on that repository.
I, for one, am *very* appreciative of your efforts. Don't know
WHY you do it - except for the love of doing it - but that's
your business. Just remember that some of us DO appreciate
all the hard work that is going into the site.

You can send your HATE mail to me anytime you like. I enjoy
it.

Take care, Bob

Don,

I?m not a volunteer or part of Celestia, but thanks for your great work.
The Celestia Motherlord is one of the best sites I know for downloading add ons for Celestia.
Also, the site itself is beautiful.
Thanks for your work. :D
