Looks like you've created a task for yourself, Bob :) ... you could always come back and edit your original post above when each new pre comes out, which would avoid the thread getting longer and longer.

Will be more than happy to do this...

Beats having to search for the appropriate thread every time someone asks for the
latest release.

Thanks, Bob

Good idea !

It might be worth mentioning which pre-release version is being made available here, in the post subject header too, so it makes the sticky post more obvious each time it is changed.

Hi Bob:

I downloaded the file for pre7 from your sticky link, but when I went to install it, a screen appeared telling me I was about to install 1.3.2pre6, and asked me if I wanted to proceed? Did Chris just forget to change this screen, or is the exe file really pre6? Do you know?

Thanks in advance.

Frank,

If I'm not mistaken, Chris was simply in a hurry with the Pre-7 release. It
was put in place to correct some bugs in Pre6 within the space of a day or two.

We're talking Pre-8 now though.

Thanks, Bob

If I would install 1.3.2preX while 1.3.1 is still on my system, does 1.3.2preX interference 1.3.1 ?

Is there something else I should pay attention to for checking out the pre-versions?

You should be able to install another version... Just make certain that you install the new
version into a DIFFERENT directory, or - if you can't do that - make certain that
your 1.3.1 version of Celestia gets placed into a DIFFERENT directory before you install
the latest version. Also, change all of your old shortcuts to use the new, different directory.

Does that help?

When I get a new Pre-release version, what I do is simply rename my current directory to
something like "currentcelestia" and then I make sure that all of my current shortcuts
point to the new location.

After doing this, you can simply install whatever version of Celestia you have using
the normal install procedure. I haven't had any trouble with registry errors doing this,
but you might, so be careful with it.

That's the best I can do by way of explanation. Sorry, but I hope it helps.

Take care, Bob

Just make sure you backup your special stuff someplace else...I've learned this the hard way! I still haven't got it back and, in some cases, extrasolar, have completely lost everything!

There is a lot to improve in terms of Geforce FX support.I tested the Celestia 1.3.2 pre 6(actually,this link is for pre6,not pre7) and the only thing that is better in the Geforce FX rendering mode,is the shadow of Saturn in its rings.

It's pre7, as discussed earlier in the thread. The executable for pre6 is called celestia-win32-1.3.2pre6.exe.

Calm down, people ! Daniel is not a such negative person; I've even found a message congratulating Commander David.

Well, on the other side, it's one message for about 220...

(Bob, I'm not trying to defend him, ok ? )

I am not saying that Celestia is a bad product. It?s very good, but compared to last year, the updates are taking too long.Last year,we had a major update almost every week. Now,we don?t have one in months.Mindtoask and Jens made many galaxies and nebula addons and then,in several months, there is no more.
About the Celestia 1.3.2 and its Geforce FX mode,of course it?s a failure to don?t have almost any improvement with this new mode of rendering.I understand that you want Celestia to be acessible for everyone, but it have to be any advantage to people that use GF FX,who has advanced shading procedures comparing to Geforce 4,for example.

Danielj,if you want some more Nebula/Galaxy addons why not try to make some yourself-if you follow Seldens billboard idea,it really isnt too difficult and there are a few different free modelling programs available on the net (Anim8or to name but one),if you need help you only have to ask,or send me an Email, all the best Jestr

Daniel, you have to understand that Celestia is a free project. Remember people involved into are volontary. Feeding your impatience is not a duty.

But even if Celestia was wasn't free, your attitude of mind would be everything but admissible. You behave like a spoiled child.

Perhaps the developers have more important things to do? Like feeding their families?

I don't have *any* graphics card in my machine, and you don't hear me complaining
about the features that *are* available to me. I'm sorry Daniel, I just don't understand
why you persist in criticizing this great, free resource. Certainly there are things that
could be better in Celestia, but what do you want? Never mind... Forget I said that...
Let me ask another question... What possible motivation are you offering Chris and the
other developers to get Celestia up to your standards? All you ever do is gripe about
new features anyway. Why would Chris want to add features for you if all you can do
is gripe about them? Do you see my point?

I'm sorry I started this discussion, but I stand by what I said. Certainly you must
like *something* about the package or you wouldn't keep using it. You don't have to
keep quiet, son. Just quit bitching all the time. A considerate word of appreciation
to the developers might go a *lot* farther towards getting improvements than another
"This program ain't worth crap" message.

Take care, Bob
