I notice that there are no textures in the hires directory - only in the medres and lowres. Are there textures available for the hires directory?

If you're looking for hi-res maps of the planets for Celestia there are lots of websites available - plenty on the forums if you search through months of posts. I use this one : http://gw.marketingden.com/planets/
Make sure you resize the images so that there size attributes (in pixels) are multiples of 1024 by 512 or you'll just see a washed-out blur if anything at all (NB the sizes you need vary from object ot object but 1024 by 512 or multiples thereof work for all planets in the Solar System - I think). You don't actually need to put them in the hi-res directory though - all of mine are in the medres and work fine.
