Curiosity : How much disk space is your Celestia ?
In less than two months, Celestia has grown from 20 MB up to 1.4 Gig on my HD. Now I'm curious about your version of Celestia. How much space is Celestia taking on your HD ?
"Well! I've often seen a cat without a grin", thought Alice; "but a grin without a cat! It's the most curious thing I ever saw in all my life!"

Cham,
Mine is at a paltry 1.6 GB at the moment. Of course, this is without a lot of the Virtual Textures I'm going to need.
It grows fast, so watch out...
Take care, Bob

Geez!
By all your replies, it appears Celestia is really a big party on the net !
A week ago, I was begining to be very afraid, seeing my Celestia folder to grow up so fast, to a so big volume. I'm now puzzled about my back-up startegy !

I've just reduced my main file to 2.81 GB by being a bit ruthless and clearing out some stuff.
I am also running two versions - the other is my 'Educational' version!
As for backing-up..... lots of CD-RW's

Well at present my main install is about 8Gb. But my main Celestia storage folder were I store all my textures that are being made or just getting stored until needed is 70.8GB.
I still need to do some serious backing up. I can't wait till I get a DVD Burner.
I won't even atemp to back up this much data to a regular CD-R. It would just take to many discs. I do archive to a back-up external drive for those that might worry I am spitting in fates face.

I am officially a retired member.
I might answer a PM or a post if its relevant to something.
Ah, never say never!!
Past texture releases, Hmm let me think about it
Thanks for your understanding.

~4.32GB
I've currently got 4 different versions installed, and about 2.5GB of the above is probably due to duplication of big 32k VTs over the versions!
If I include everything like website data, raw XYZ data (of which I have more than you'd think humanly possible), models & textures that are works in progress etc, the total grows to about 5.5GB.
Next biggest thing on the computer is Unreal 2 at 2.2GB
The worst thing of all is that my CDRW drive is currently broken so I can't back up! Must get it fixed next weekend when I have more time...

How about investing in a new DVD+-RW drive like Don E would like / has ? You can get them in this country for under ?100 now !

DVD-RW discs are normally more compatible for set-top DVD players, since it is the older format. DVD+RW is newer so you would need a newer DVD player if you wanted to play a bunch of MP3s or your own videos on your set-top player. Both provide the same amount of storage space.
When you buy a DVD recorder, whether for your computer or home entertainment system, make sure it does BOTH formats, just to be safe.

A question :
Somebody Knows how much space do all add-ons take up in hard drive ?
How long is a piece of string ?
There have been many add-ons created for Celestia over the last few years and by no means all of them are to be found on the Motherlode.
My current installation has grown to a whopping 8.83 GB, mainly because I run multiple large sized virtual textures. I also have many more add-ons which probably account for a couple more gigabytes which I don't currently use and have backed up copies on CD's.
I could download quite a few more large sized textures plus many more add-ons that I don't have, and I wouldn't be suprised if it doubled the size of what I have at present....and some.
It would be interesting to know how much is currently available on the motherlode at present ?

There are currently ~12.2 GB of files on the Motherlode. The ZIP files which make up most of these files decompress to ~21.3 GB of data and 70000 files (excluding those files which aren't compressed using a standard ZIP program). However some of the data is duplicated, e.g. if the same Addon is available as a single download as well as split into smaller parts.
