Tracking problem

I recently upgraded to version 1.3.0 after having used version1.2.0. One of my preferred views is the track view when doing flybys. In the 1.2 version I would set up to fly towards Jupiter whilst closely passing Io. As I begin to pass Io I select it then hit "T" I would watch the flyby then untrack by hitting "T" for the second time and my forward view would return showing me heading towards Jupiter.

It no longer works this way in version 1.3. In version 1.3 I setup the same flybay and hit "T" and so far so good. However when I untrack, my heading has changed and I no longer have Jupiter in my forward view. Can this be modified to work in the same way as v1.2? Does anyone know a workaround?

Thank you.

Howdy Wizard,

Did you mean version 1.3.1, or really 1.3.0? Version 1.3.1 was released in December. You might want to try this version to see if this was changed. Personally, I'm not sure.

Cheers,

I just verified this:

Celestia v1.2.5 final:
Move Io to the side of the screen with the LMB
Type a T
Io returns to the center
Type a T
Io returns to the side

Celestia v1.3.0pre6 and more recent:
Move Io to the side of the screen with the LMB
Type a T
Io returns to the center
Type a T
Io stays in the center.

I don't have 1.3.0pre1-5 on my system any more, so I can't determine easily which prerelease changed the behavior.

Thank you for your verification Selden! :)

The next logical question would be to Chris and the other developers: Was this change intentional or accidental?

Thanks for the response. Fortunately I have a copy of v1.2 which I have reinstalled for the moment. I too would like to know if the change was intentional and if so what was the rationale behind it. I think the "T" key acting as a toggle (i.e. v1.2) is the better implementation. I was also wondering if the change affects the creation of cels when using the "T" option.

Hi selden,
Am I correct in thinking you verified my findings using version 1.3.1?
Also do you know where I can obtain a copy of version 1.2.5? This version appears to have phase lock implemented. Phase lock is a great feature not present in 1.2.0.

Thanks

Sorry, I should have somewhat more explicit.
I verified the T on/off features with Windows versions of Celestia, starting with
v1.2.5 final, which restores the previous viewing angle,
and with v1.3.0pre6, v1.3.0 final and v1.3.1-1 final, all of which do not.

Many of the "final" versions of Celestia for Windows, back to v1.0.10, are available on SourceForge at http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=21302

Don't forget that you can have multiple versions of Celestia installed on your system and they'll all work fine (except or their various bugs). Just be sure to install them in different directories. However, Cel:// URLs will invoke the last one you install.
