I have just started using Celestia and am totally confused about images. I have been around some help files but they are way off my needs... and have already spent 3 boring days...

1) How do I place an image file in Celestia and have access to it? Supose I go to Mars and want to see all things related to it (sojourner, vistas from the surface as well as an explanation of what am looking at), how can I go switching the images (sort of a presentation)?

2) How do I go to a Mars (just an example) topic site from the image I see or to its home page?

I do not intent changing programs textures, etc. (at least for now) but just want to increase information about a planet or galaxy or new deiscoveries.

Thanks

You have to install the Addons which have those features. At the moment there is no central repository or automatic download manager. It all has to be done manually.

Use the RightMouseButton to Select Mars: click on it and hold down the RMB. You will get a popup menu. Select the item "Info". It will open your Web browser on the NinePlanets Web site's page for that planet.

If you use the RMB Info to select objects outside the solar system, it will access the Simbad scientific Web site for information about the object.

The links that Celestia provides by itself are not to news sites, but to databases of information. You'd need a special Addon to provide News links. I don't think anyone has taken the time to create one.

However, you might want to consider downloading Frank Gregorio's "Teaching Activities" at http://www.fsgregs.org/celestia/. They are very large and contain many links that use Celestia.

Does this help?
