Did anybody think about models for planets yet? It would be a nice feature. But maybe just model only the main landscape features like mountains, canyons, etc. to save processing power. For Example: the canyon on Mars would really benefit from this.
Just think, ever wondered what Olympas Mons would look like in the horizon on Mars?? The Rockies on Earth?
OT: And what about a model for Mimas?
Models for Planets(Mars and Earth)?

I used to have a model of Earth in my Celestia, and still have it ,let me know if you want it.But it isnt possible to have model and virtual textures.I could give the model better textures but I dont think it would load then and would be difficult to manouevre it.The best I got was 8k Earth texture.I have also made models of mars inserting the pieces available from Space-Graphics.com (where the Earth model came from also). With 'Olympus Mons' , 'Labyrnis Noctis' , 'Valles Marineris' , 'Ma adim Vallis' and 'Xanthe Terra' , it is a 54Mb 3ds file!!But I have also made smaller ones with selections of the above e.g Olympus Mons,Labrynis Noctis and Valles Marineris together at 26Mb.Let me know (E-mail- jestr@ntlworld.com) if you want them ,but they take a while to load and are difficult to manouevre about.I have made a model of Mimas already and given it a new texture. You can see a picture of it and download it here-

Jestr,
Just wanted you to know that I'm using your mimas.3ds model, along
with my current mimas.png texture to great effect.
Thought you might like to see the result below...
I'd have added your texture, but it takes soooo... long to copy from your system to my limited Windows XP (i.e. - 35 minutes for just the model) that I haven't been able to get it yet.
At any rate, thanks for the effort. I like the use of models for moons.
Take care, Bob
