Celestia appears in JBIS

Post #1by granthutchison » 06.12.2003, 13:49

The current edition of the Journal of the British Interplanetary Society (Jan/Feb 2004) contains an article entitled "New Method of Terraforming" by Abas Kangi, illustrated with a rather poor greyscale reproduction of an image of a terraformed Mars with clouds and seas, credited to www.celestiaproject.net/gallery. The original image isn't now present in the gallery, as far as I can see, but I'm guessing it's most likely one by Don Edwards, from the Mars Terraforming project. It shows the northern hemisphere ocean with the Elysium volcanoes standing up as an island, a specular reflection off the bay formed by Isidis Planitia, and the flooded Hellas basin on the limb of the planet, with a few wisps of equatorial cloud crossing the middle of the planet disc. No colours to judge the level of vegetation, if any.
If anyone recognizes that and we can match the image precisely, I'll happily drop the BIS a letter asking them to give due credit to Celestia and the texture's author.
Even if we can't pin down the image's origin, its presence in JBIS will likely bring in some visitors via the gallery pages :)

I supose it coluld be a picture of one of my textures. I would have to see a copy of the picture to know for sure if I screen-captured it or not. But if it came from the Celestia gallery it is a good posibility it could be my origin. Any chance of someone scanning in the image and posting it. If I can see the picture I can most likely track it down if it one of mine.

P.S.
Maybe I should start to water-mark my images I post in the galley with my name. At least there won't be any confusion as to who made it.

I might answer a PM or a post if its relevant to something.

Ah, never say never!!
Past texture releases, Hmm let me think about it

Thanks for your understanding.

It has to be mine. But I have no way of referencing it. It appears that while I was going through all my Celestia files, I saved all my screen captures or at least most of then into a single folder. But as things always go for me I can't find the bloody thing. So I think I may have some how deleted it with all the other culled files. It is quite a shame as I had some very neat screen captures and was planning a major overhaul of my gallery. Now I feel real stupid that I ended up doing something this dumb. I suppose I might have it backed up on a CDR. But that would take to long to track down. This is about as close as I can come to the image.

Hope this helps.
