Post #1by Darkmiss » 18.11.2003, 11:31

For those of you that already know about the FP Softwar Lab 3DScreen savers
Well they have been updated to version 1.1 with better textures and bump mapping.
And also addeda a Saturn screen saver too
Which in my opinion is just the best. 8O

and for those of you that dont know about this
Have a look, these are the best screen savers I have ever seen.

Also anyone who might know how to extract the Saturn Texture
It might be worth it, as it better than any i have seen before.

here is a sample.... Look at that texture.... I want one like that. 8O

Wow, you can see the ring shadows on the planet :P
I also want such textures/shaders.

Hi Maxim,

you have ringshadows in celestia to. Goto Saturn and press Ctrl+V to switch the shadermode. If your graphiccard a GeForce or a ATI you can see the ringshadows.
Celestia on my System:
AMD Barton 2800+@3000+
1024 MB DDR-RAM
ATI Radeon 9500 non Pro 128MB

yeah this is just a screen saver
so it doesn't use real time positioning or anything

So the ring shadows are a lot lower than they are at the moment.

The last time the ring shadows was that low was late 1996.

Yeh, but only if you have one of the really new, really expensive Geforce or ATI cards. I've a Geforce 4 MX 440 & it doesn't show the ring shadows.

Jack,

You don't need a "really new" card or a "really expensive" one, either. It's just that Nvidia left out the specific feature that Celestia uses from the MX design. :( My understanding is that MX cards do show all the other Celestia eyecandy, though.

A "really new" but relatively inexpensive card that'll show ring shadows is a $70 FX 5200. A not-so-new card that works is a GF4 Ti4200. They're about the same price and performance as the FX 5200.
