I am wondering why the stars don't twinkle yet. I would think that would be the first thing they'd implement.

Did you know that stars don't twinkle when in space? It's an atmospheric effect.

Cheers,

Yes, That is what I mean. I think the stars should twinkle when on the surface of planets with atmospheres.

It is because Celestia was originaly a Space simulater not a planet simulater.
Now it is somewhere in between. There are many other more important features we need in Celestia. Twinkling stars is somewhere around #500.

It sure seems like an earth simulator to me with all these earth addons, but thanks for clearing that up Don.

The stars do twinkle in previous versions of Celestia...I think it was a bug...but it looked sooo good!!. I think anything before v 1.30.0 will twinkle? Get the exe and use that if you're viewing from an Earth location.

From here on in it gets complicated...you cannot use vitual textures and other stuff.

Maybe set up a folder and call it 'twinkle'?...why not?

I love it!!

Regards...bh.

I still see them twinkle sometimes with my ATI AIW 9800, I think it depends on the anti-aliasing setting used. I don't have access to my home machine right now to verify what the appropriate settings are.

Try an exe earlier than the one at present...I've just swapped the latest exe with this one...08/07/2003...hey presto! Twinkling stars.

Looks fantastic when viewing from low altitude! Of course you'll need to swap back for virtual textures and whatever...just shows how flexible the app is. Good old Chris!
