Finally!

http://www.celestiaproject.net/celestia/files/ ... 1pre10.exe

Changes in this version include:
- Texture updates from Jens and Grant for Earth, the Moon, and the Saturnian satellites
- A log console
- A new version of the center command
- Fix for the multiple virtual textures crash

Shift+C activates the new center command. It center the selection in the field of view without pointing away from the current reference object

~ will toggle the log console on and off. To scroll through the log messages, use the up and down arrow keys or Page Up/Page Down

Many thanks for the update.

I've just downloaded and installed pre10.

In giving the newest version a trial run I seem to have run across some difficulties. Namely, trying to "Go To" the first three listed moons of Saturn (Prometheus, Epimetheus, and Janus) doesn't seem to actually retrieve those moons. I may be doing something wrong, but I've managed to go to just about all other planet moons.

Is this something to look into?

Again, many thanks for the update.

It looks like the 3DS models for some of the Saturnian moons are missing. You can GoTo their locations, but they're invisible because there's no model to load. If Marks and Labels are enabled, you can see those.

Presumably this is related to the copyright, license and distribution permission issues that have been brought up by the Debian folks.

Hmmm. It seems that some error conditions aren't being logged.
After using ~ to enable the console log display, GoTo Prometheus, the logging console says that Celestia's loading the image and then that it's loading the 3ds mesh. The 3ds mesh doesn't exist, but there's no error message saying it wasn't found.

Here's a "minor" addendum to Chris' notes about the new prerelease:

To enable "orientation editing," type an @ (shift 2) instead of ~, which is now used to enable the console log.

Models and surface textures for the moons Prometheus, Epimetheus and Janus were provided by Grant Hutchison as an addon for Celestia v1.2.5 and for v13.0. They're still available at http://www.lepp.cornell.edu/~seb/celestia/hutchison/index-130.html

The omission of the models was not intentional . . . will be fixed in the next version.

Selden, thanks for mentioning the change to the key binding for edit mode. ~ is something of a standard key to bring up a console in games, so I though it'd be a good idea to follow that precedent.

Chris

You meantioned that the "track surface" feature wouldn't be that hard to implement. Does that mean it'll be in 1.3.1 final, or will we have to wait until 1.3.2 pre1...?!

Hi Chris,

Additional note ...

The error log does *not* report an error when loading the .3ds files for these three moons, even though they do *not* exist.

You'll have to wait until 1.3.2, I'm afraid . . . I'm too busy bug fixing right now to add any more features.

Aww... :( Never mind, something to look forward too anyway!
