I kind of expected the perfect Celestia companion to be free... or at least have a free demo to try out...
Cheers,

Besides being closed source, there are other problems with the specific technology behind Eingana. On their page, it says it takes
two CDs worth of data to generate the terrain for Earth. That would make a prohibitive download over a modem.

Additionally, we just don't
have information of that detail for all but a few of the bodies in Celestia.
The idea
behind the feature is sound, however, I just wonder how well it fits into the "master plan" for Celestia. It seems that Celestia is designed to work on a grander scale.

I've found a version of it on a program called edonkey2000, similar to kazaa, but it is about 1300 MB. So unless you have a cable modem (hint, hint) just buy it. By the looks of it, its gonna take a LONG time for me because I can't find many sources.

Chris...I wanna see one of these in Celestia!
Would go nicely with the already sweet sunset color settings...the swelling sun...
I could only imagine the look of a swelling B or O class star at sunset...

I have been looking at this program Eingana, and it just looks amazing.
I am going to be picking this up from the shops as soon a s I can.
would make the perfect companion to Celestia.
you can go and view anyewhere on the earth, citys, valleys, oceans,
even under the sea.
and the whole program is alive with people, animals plantlife, and vehicles. (even a space shuttle)
Cant wait to get this program.
Thanks for showing me this Celestia_Fan.

what I would really like to see in celestia is the lens effects at least.
i know a program very similart to celestia that has those efects. and they look very good.
i think that the program is called star strider or something like that.

Anyone ever use OpenUniverse? That had the lens flare effect too, and that was really primitive compared to celestia now...
In that you couldn't actually
see the sun sometimes though, because the flare didn't darken down as it would in real life (as your eyes would adjust to the light)

I'm not going to do a lens flare effect for Celestia. Lens flares are artifacts caused by internal reflections in a camera lens, not an effect you see with your eye. So what's the point? There are other techniques for giving the impression of extreme brightness that more accurately represent what you'd see with your eye, and are also IMO more aesthetically pleasing.

Ok so no lens flare, but what other kinds of effects could you do?

Ever tried the game ICO? It simulates how the eye works by making very bright things overbright.
