A number of hard disk producers offer a neat piece of software to their customers that involves "fuzzy logics". You let it scan your hd within reasonable time intervals and the tool tells you when your hd is about to crash!

It's really no joke. The software can also notice slight displacements in the alignments or also if something is wrong with the disk's bearings etc. Of course it compares all these data with the logged previous runs...

These tools are also handy when you want to claim a replacement disk during warranty time.

I used these tools already to my great advantage;-)

I have a Quantum Fireball CX20.4A rive 20 gig, it's never failed me before. Too bad they don't make them anymore, atleast since Maxtor bought them out :(
I'm getting a new one soon since i have hardly any space left on it.

Those Quantum hard drives are still being made. Just under the Maxtor brand. If you hold a real Maxtor drive next to a Quantum drive they look very different. Now if you hold some of the newer Maxtor drives along side a Quantum drive, guess what they look the same. So if you know what a Quantum drive looks like and you go shopping for a Maxtor drive just look for one that looks just like the Quantum drive did. You will end up with a Quantum drive. Maxtor bought Quantum because there drives were made better and I can tell you there appears to be no difference between a true Quantum and a Maxtor branded one. Just a little info when you go looking. Now my favorite brand hard drive is Seagate. The Barracuda line is very good and very reliable.

I know that they still make them, Maxtor bought the Quantum Harddrive not the company. I'm saying IMHO Maxtor doesn't make them with the same care that Quantum did. I didn't mean they don't make them anymore, I just mean they're not the same anymore :(
Sorry for not wording my post properly, I tend to do that when I'm tired, or when I'm just thinking alot about something. I have 6 Barracuda's in my basement They never failed either but, They're only 2 and 4 gig harddrives. They're pretty old I had them about 5 or 6 years ago.
Most people throw out they're old hardrives but sometimes they're still fixable. So my dad just fixes one for me. I won't be buying any Harddrives in the near future because i have to save up $2500 for a Guitar lukily I'll get a hundred or two for my Birthday which is soon.
So, I won't be spending over a 100 dollars for a Harddrive. As I said my dad will just give me a fixed fully functional one and I won't have to spend any money.

ElPelado For XP are you using the Default toolbar colours?
Goto Display Properties ( Desktop>Rightclick>Properties ) and Select Appearence. Change the Colour Scheme to Silver, or Olive Green.
Silver's the Best IMO. Anyway I'm getting a New SeaGate barracuda 80 gig drive soon to replace my 20 gig Quantum Fireball CX20.4A, So I'm Happy :D
