Celestial Phenomena: what and where is it ?

Post #1by Calculus » 06.06.2003, 16:21

Another Celestial Quizz (not that difficult for the Celestia community).
What is it ?
Where is it ?
How large is it ?
How old is it ?

Are there others ?
How many are they ?
Where are they ?

Have a look:

That's the impact crator site of an astroid that hit in Eastern Canada that because of it's rather wet climate, filled in with water to create a type of "ring lake" if you will.

There are other crators pockmarking earth elsewhere. The Meteor Crator site in Arizona near Flagstaff is one such example.

I'm surprised not to get more answers. Where are Celestia's gurus ?
Here are the answers:
It is Manicouagan crater in Quebec, Canada (jrobert is right). It is 100km wide and 200 million years old.

There are about 170 known such craters on earth. Unfortunately, they are very difficult to watch with Celestia. A 16k earth texture is not enough!
