Some Cel:// URLs

I've created a version of one of my Gallery pages that uses Cel:// URLs instead of screenshots.

Indeed, Very useful this Cel:// URLs feature. Kudos!

i dont think i really like them too much, indeed they may be useful for some things, but how they change the orbits, labels, clouds, ect. from being on to off, or off to on, well it just gets a little annoying having to reset them all the time

Thanks, Paul, although I can only accept them for the Gallery page itself. I don't do any coding of Celestia: Christophe, Fridger and Chris are responsible for most of that. I just seem to be able to find lots of bugs ;)

To capture a URL under Windows:
type Control-Insert
(Hold down the "Control" key and type the "Insert" key. On most keyboards it's in the cluster of 6 keys above the arrow keys.)
That writes the URL of the current ViewPane into the clipboard.

To record a URL,
use the "Paste" command of your favorite editor to put it into (e.g.) a text file or Web document.

You can then use a URL in several ways, similar to the ways you can use an HTTP URL with a browser:

1) Selecting the Web link will pass the location and some status information to Celestia. If Celestia's already running, it'll just jump to that location. If it's not running, itll be started first.

2) drag the URL onto a running copy of Celestia. It'll immediately go there.

Make just one or 2 with your own favorite's settings!

Mike,

One way to think of a URL is that it's another way of taking a snapshot of what you see with Celestia. It's just not quite so rigidly fixed as a Jpeg image. It includes details about Celestia's state, unlike a "Favorites" entry, which just reords the location and direction you're looking.

To give credit where credit is due: Christophe did the original implementation of cel:// URLs. I just ported the feature to Windows. It's a great feature, and I'm happy to see them getting some use.

I find that annoying too. Using a URL with your own preferences is a solution, but it's just a work arround really.

To correct that we could either have some kind of favorite preferences that could be applied without changing your location as is the case with a URL, or we could have 'stiky' preferences, ie the user can specify settings that are not affected by URLs.

Perhaps we should allow the option of saving a URL with or without the render and label flags. There are some cases where the settings aren't relevant, but other cases where the setting might be very important--for instance, to label a distant object that would otherwise be invisible.

Selden, I obtained some URLs without problems, but I've been unable to link them in my new Celestia web page:

http://www.ara-frasso-sabino.org/andrea_celestia.htm

I use Dreamweaver 4 for my web pages production, but I never before had the need of URLs connection. I would like to connect the URL information to an image in that page, but I don't know how.
Can you help me please?
Thank you

Andrea

Andrea,

Unfortunately, I really know nothing about Dreamweaver. I just use a plain text editor to create my Web pages. That's one reason they're so boring :)

However, as best I can tell from looking at the information at http://www.internet4classrooms.com/using_dw_links.htm all you should have to do is to paste the Cel:// URL into the Link field of the Properties window for the object you'll be using as the picture or text for the link. This procedure is described in the very first section of the Web page above.

Does this help?

Selden, it's working.
I've just modified my web page.
Thank you very much, that link is fantastic.
