Hi John71

Re clouds...

AFAIK Celestia only displays clouds as a flat plane (image)

I guess you could apply multiple clouds planes - as the Juipiter clouds add on?

I've used the NASA fair clouds image and added a drop shadow in PS

Crude, I know, but these turned out to be the best clouds on my rig.

I've tried VT clouds and they don't come close - plus I can set them to move to give a more dynamic viewing experience.

Just saying...

Hi bh!

Yes, that's a very good idea!

I think the 256k and 512k procedural cloud layers should be much lower than the usual clouds.

Unfortunately 8k non-VT textures are useless from the height of 50 km.

The problem with 256k and 512k cloud layers is that we should see them as 3D objects, even from 50 km.

Added after 6 hours 16 minutes:
False 3D clouds, two layers, 128k and 256k (video mp4 HEVC):

Thanks bh for the idea!!!!

Thanx. The only problem is Celestia can occupy 12GB RAM, when I use 256k cloud textures!!!!

So Björn Jónsson had just finished his high resolution Voyager 1 Jupiter map which uses images from late February 1979, and of course I was excited since I'm a sucker for Voyager 1 Jupiter. I put the texture to good use in Celestia, so here's some Voyager 1 Jupiter images I took last night:
