I made this list to visualize the neighborhood of the sun :

"voisinage"
[
[ "Alpha Cen" "Proxima" "Sol" "Barnard's Star" "Ross 154" "Lacaille 8760" "Epsilon Ind" "Lacaille 9352" "Luyten 726-8" "Epsilon Eri" "Sirius" "Procyon" "Luyten's Star" "Ross 614" "Giclas 99-49" ]
[ "Ross 154" "Wolf 1061" "36 Oph A-B" "36 Oph C" ]
[ "Lacaille 8760" "Luyten 354-89" ]
[ "Epsilon Ind" "SCR 1845-6357" "Gliese 674" ]
[ "Lacaille 9352" "Luyten 789-6" ]
[ "Lacaille 9352" "Cordoba 32416" ]
[ "Luyten 726-8" "Tau Cet" "Luyten 725-32" "GJ 1002" "Van Maanen's Star" "Luyten 1159-16" "Teegarden's Star" "Groombridge 34" "Kruger 60" "61 Cyg" "GJ 1245" "Gliese 687" "Struve 2398" ]
[ "Epsilon Eri" "Luyten 372-58" ]
[ "Groombridge 34" "Ross 248"]
[ "Kruger 60" "EV Lac" ]
[ "Gliese 687" "Alsafi" "LP 44-113" ]
[ "Procyon" "DX Cnc" "Lalande 21185" "Wolf 359" "Ross 128" "Wolf 424" "Lalande 25372" ]
[ "Kapteyn's Star" "Luyten 372-58" "DENIS 0255-4700" ]
[ "Ross 128" "DENIS 1048-3956" "Luyten 143-23" "Luyten 145-141" ]
]

(the rule here is to find the shortest path between the stars within 17 ly from the sun)
To see it put it in the data/asterisms.dat file.
Other way is to create an asterisms2.dat file with this list, and to change "AsterismsFile "asterisms.dat"" by "AsterismsFile "asterisms2.dat"" in the celestia.cfg file. (thanks to jo?l for this trick)

Do you know other lists, add-ons, scripts... to visualize the surrounding stars ?

Have you tried my last addon from the following list ?

Thank you Cham. It's seems to be kind of what I'm searching for.
Unfortunatly... celestia closed.
Perhaps because I use Celestia 1.5.1
I must find the energy to try a compilation of 1.6.0
:)

I changed my heron for a lynx and that works.

But I don't see the polargrid, is there a key ?

hello john,
I use ubuntu 10.04 with gnome, and celestia 1.6.0 now.
Can this explain why I see stars in Cham's add-on but not the polargrid ?

Thank you for your answers, it seems there's some misunderstanding.
I'm not compiling celestia : celestia 1.6.0 wasn't in ubuntu 08.04 files but it is in ubuntu 10.04 one's.

The grid I was talking about is one that is seen on Cham's add-on's screenshots. I don't see it whereas I see the other stuff of this add-on (markers of nearest stars, labels...)

I was wondering if there is a key to toggle this grid on/off.

I see the 3 celestial/ecliptic/galactic grids (I like very much the new grids that wasn't in celestia 1.5.1) but I don't see meridians and parralels grid, where it is in the view options ?

I eventually understand the difference between celestia and celestia-ED, between .cel and .celx scripts and why I should make a compilation of a "qt version" of celestia.
I will wait for the release of celestia160-ed in ubuntu10's synaptic.
