Jupiter & Galileans - RotationOffsets in 1.2.5

Post #1by granthutchison » 09.01.2003, 20:48

1) With the correction of the Galilean satellite orbits in 1.2.5, my previous RotationOffsets need revised, so that the satellites are correctly orientated.
To get their prime meridians pointing at Jupiter, use the following RotationOffsets:

Io: RotationOffset 219
Europa: RotationOffset 53
Ganymede: RotationOffset 60
Callisto: RotationOffset 282

Unfortunately, although Io, Ganymede and Callisto now have texture maps with central prime meridians, Europa hasn't been corrected - it's still 180 degrees out of alignment. To fix this, either use my corrected texture, "europa180.jpg", or add 180 degrees to Europa's RotationOffset above.

2) Although the rotation period for the Great Red Spot in System II is now the default setting in 1.2.5, the System III RotationOffset is still used. To correctly align the GRS using the default "jupiter.jpg" texture, use the following settings in solarsys.ssc:

Code: Select all

RotationPeriod      9.927953 # System II (for GRS)
   # RotationPeriod    9.924920 # System III (radio emissions)
   Obliquity           2.222461
   EquatorAscendingNode -22.203
   RotationOffset   16 #jupiter.jpg
   # RotationOffset      305.40   # System III
