1600x1200 32bits DISPLAY MODE NOT PRESENT!

When I go to RENDER/SELECT DISPLAY MODE I don't see the 1600x1200x32 mode, I only see the 1600x1200x16 or hte 1280x1024x16 mode. At a friend's PC (he has Nvidia GeForce4 Ti4600) the 1600x1200x32 is present and he has the same Celestia version installed. What is causing this? Is there a workaround?
Thanks!

I guess it only applies to full screen mode, and even there you can go into the celestia main directory and edit the configuration file.

Try using celestia in windowed mode, afaik celestia should have the desktop's color depth now .. and you can resize the window to your liking ;)

How do I edit the configuration file? What file and what changes? Thanks!

Indeed there is no 1600x1200x32, which coincides with my native laptop resolution. I have to limit the display to 16-bit for full-screen, which is not bad.

I'm not sure why there would be such a restriction...

UncleSpam, yes there is. In fact, as I mentioned, version 1.2.4 of Celestia is installed at a friend's PC and the 1600x1200x32 mode shows up in the drop down list.

Celestia gets its resolutions from your videocards drivers and what windows thinks it has as a monitor and what resolutions the monitor can do. Many people let Windows just select a generic plug-n-play monitor as a value when they really need to do the extra step of finding a driver for there monitor so Windows and there videocard knows the proper resolution settings available for that monitor. Sometimes Windows etects the monitor properly as in the case of Windows 2000/XP but Windows 9x/ME has always been buggy when detecting monitors. For me Windows9x/Me always said my monitor was a Gateway EV900 when it wasn't. Please bare this in mind when trying to use higher resolutions.
