Apparent size of objects in Celestia

Post #1by PlutonianEmpire » 27.06.2009, 18:01

Why is it that objects appear smaller in celestia than as the naked eye sees it?

For example, I remember seeing the moon right next to the Pleiades, and it appeared bigger than that group of stars. Yet, when I looked at it in celestia, it appeared smaller. Why is that?

http://apod.nasa.gov/apod/ap050414.html

shows the Moon next to the Pleiades.
Celestia's display of this event (at about 23:45 UTC on April 11, 2005) seems to be reasonably accurate. ;)

(This is a v1.6 url)

p.s. I've corrected the URL to correspond to the location of the photographer in Carranza, NJ.
