Hey guys and girls, lads and ladies, and everyone who takes turns :)

Jut a quick hi from me, I'm relatively new to astronomy as a hobby and interest. I found Celestia by blind luck, but I am really glad I did, fantastic piece of software.

I was wandering if there would be any problems with me using images and video fottage from within the programe for non-profit educational purposes in youtube videos and on my website?

TYVM in advance

The short answer is, no problem. But the long answer is somewhat complicated, and more interesting... See a discussion here: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=7481

I wish for a sticky on this subject. It pops up too often. Think i?ll write one when i get the time.

Jefflawson,

start with Frank Gregorio's User's Guide. You can find it in the documentation section of the Celestia website:
http://www.shatters.net/celestia/documentation.html.

The Celestia wiki may also be interesting for you:
http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Celestia

For further information check
http://celestiamotherlode.net/catalog/documentation.html.

Just look around a bit and you will find everything you need. To discuss specific questions post here in the forums, but look at the FAQs first: http://www.shatters.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=13461

Have fun with Celestia!

Bye
Andy

If you would read the licence, the GPL: General Public Licence.
You will see that images and video footage aren't covered by the licence, it's program output.
There for the images and video's are yours and you are legally allowed to do anything you want with it.

But to be on the safe side, be nice and do credit Celestia and the makers of Celestia and addons you use.
With addons, you best check if the licence is allowing you to do the stuff you want to do.
Every addon can have a unique licence.

And welcom on the forum.

In another thread, I told you folks about the music video I made. In the video, I use the top-3 names, ending it with "and company." But... I also direct people to my website for extended credits. To see what I'm talking about, go to http://wallstonemedia.com/wordpress/, and select the "Abstract Reality" article. In that article, go to page 2, which has the extended credits. If I'm going to be doing these videos regularly, I'll probably set up a Credits Page to keep it simple.

I did just that: http://wallstonemedia.com/wordpress/2009/08/18/celetia-videos-additional-credits/

While the first one works, this one I can add to when needed.
