Science realistic solar system bodies

Is there any kind of package around that has the highest resolution available of any maps of solar system bodies preferably with normal or bump maps. John Van Vliet has some very good packages but my biggest gripe is the time it takes to get them all. As he separates them out into such small pieces. A single Zip file would be amazingly nice for all of those. Even one zip per body would be good.

It takes a LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOT more time to MAKE these Celestia textures!

So you really are in a hurry? ;-) . The people who make theses textures also have some other business to do at times... How about helping a bit?

I'm not requesting anyone to make any. I'm just requesting if there is some place that has a good list of them. Or rather a good list of the highest available. Is celestia motherlode assured to have everything? or are there some things that just aren't posted there?
I might try making some myself, but from my brief looking around (mind you I haven't looked very hard so I'm missing some things probably) the support for running these tools under mac os x isn't so good. Currently I'm still a celestia user as I've yet to figure out how things work more, although I'm getting there.
I didn't mean to complain to John, I mainly meant that unless celestia motherlode has some size restriction, splitting one level (when I cannot think of more than one case when you might want to) into 4 zip files is unnecessary and most likely takes longer on the part of the person uploading it.

Let me rephrase myself. I am sorry if I am sounding demanding or impatient. I completely realize how much effort you guys and the celestia team have put into the program and the texture data. Already what is available is spectacular and frankly amazing. I am a perfectionist at heart so I am always trying to get the best of the best, so sorry if in the process of trying to do that I sounded demanding. I am always wating for the next amazing thing you guys make. t00fri your saturn stuff is amazing as well. I just downloaded those and I'm installing them now.

I am on OSX, and the tools worked fine for me. It is worth trying - you can produce a fantastic, hi-res Earth set in about an hour.

As for the Motherlode, it is up to each author how to present / upload material. There are no size restrictions, but neither is there any rules (outside Bob?s good judgement). So, if John van Vliet prefers small packs, then that is what you will get from him...

What's my "Saturn stuff"? I am a Celestia developer/co-author and definitely dont upload any material to the Motherlode. Apart from the Celestia distribution, my "stuff" may rather be found at our CelestialMatters site, http://forum.celestialmatters.org/, or it is spread all over this forum during the last 6-7 years ;-) .

I recommend to have a look at CelestialMatters if you want to learn about great scientific Celestia "monster" textures and their making...

Just FYI - ibiblio, which is the Motherlode Host, provides this service. There?s no reason the Motherlode could not take part in it:
http://torrent.ibiblio.org

It would only require that the Motherlode staff got in touch with ibiblio Help to set it up, since the service is moderated.

You lost me here, John. Do you mean downloading via FTP? As I'm sure that you already know, the
Motherlode does have an FTP capability. It's just that it is only used for uploads at this point.

Thanks, Bob

John,

" celestia " is not in the /pub/ tree! It is in the /incoming/ tree. -> /incoming/celestia/
And of course the contents of /incoming/celestia/ is invisible, but you can upload your files to this directory!
I thought you would know this ... :?:
