I'm not sure how easy this is to implement, but I've been thinking that it might be useful to have a choice of grids.
In addition to the current Equatorial Sphere, there could be an Ecliptic (or Invariable Plane) Sphere, as well as a Galactic Sphere.
The desired grid could be selected with radio buttons in the options menu.

That feature is really overdue and will come soon.
