Welcome to phpBB3

I've upgraded the forum software to phpBB3. There are a host of new features, which I'm only beginning to explore. Among the most useful is the ability to upload images: this should be the end of troubles with free image hosting sites. The maximum image size is currently just 256K due to shatters.net's all-too-evident bandwidth limitations. Images are automatically displayed as maximum 400 pixel wide thumbnails; you can click on them to get full resolution.

The new look and feel of the forums is phpBB3's default theme. If anyone has a phpBB theme that they especially like, I'd be happy to install it. Ultimately, I'd like to customize a theme for the Celestia forums and switch to using that as the default.

About that new look that suits with celestia.
Please not more black backgrounds with yellow letters. The readability was very bad.
A black starry picture as a background is okay as long as the topics and reply's have this blue (or another liht color) background for themselves and black letters.

Sorry to appear dense, but could you provide the instructions on how to include an image in a post without hosting it on some other website as we did in the past. When I click on the "image" menu item when posting, its still asks for an html website address where I have placed my image :?

Does phpBB have its own website that we are to first post images to, or is there some other technique for pasting an image directly into a post?

thanks

Frank,

While writing a post to the Celestia Forum, look down below the bottom of the editing window, just above the window displaying the thread. There you will see
"If you want to attach one or more files enter the details below"
The file can be a picture, a script, or even a very small Addon.

Just a test to place a picture :
"Well! I've often seen a cat without a grin", thought Alice; "but a grin without a cat! It's the most curious thing I ever saw in all my life!"

One of the most welcome new features (IMO) is the fact that very long celURL's (in fact any URL's) now get automatically abbreviated when displayed...
eg: cel://Follow/Earth/2008-03-30T15:52:24. ... 62931&lm=1

No more 20 foot wide forum pages! Hooray :!:

I do like the new forums. They are much more pleasing on the eye.I agree with duds26 though that if you do have a starry theme then it would be nice to keep these colours for the topics and replies.Well done.

I've also got nothing against Solaris (or something similar). - choice is good !

It certainly goes well with my avatar.

The Solaris theme isn't available for phpBB3 yet; the author hasn't had the opportunity to update it. When it becomes available, I'll install it as an option (though not as the default theme.)

Appreciate that Chris...
I just like the theme, but you already KNOW that I'm Brain-Dead.

Is there a way to mark all threads as read? Since I don't read all the topics, I find it handy to be able to mark them all as read so it's easier to see in what forums there are updates.

When looking at the Board Index or the Celestia page, and using the SubSilver2 skin, there's a "Mark forums read" link in the top right corner of the forum list.
Have you tried that?

When looking a a specific forum, that link is replaced by one that says "Mark topics read".

Hi Selden,

how about adding a link back to the official page of Celestia in the upper corner of the forum. Would probably be a good idea, i think.

Well, at least under subsilver2 I don't see such a link.

Regards,

Guckytos

Guckytos,

I don't have access to the code of the styles, so I can't make those kinds of changes. Chris would have to do it. I only have access to the features built into phpbb.

I've updated the prosilver theme with graphics created by Runar. There's a custom site logo and some icons that make stickt posts stand out more obviously from regular posts.
