very nice, but i think chris has already made it a point not to discuss other software on this forum, although i must admit its not bad...
I'm sorry. I didn't knew that. I have searched the forums about the desktop software before to make sure it wasn't already discussed before. I'm always proceeding this way before posting anything, and that's for the benefit of the readers.
Also, maybe I should have post the topic in the "Celestia Development" in the first place. I think it would have be more appropriate there.
As for not talking about other software in this forum, well it isn't written anywere not to do so. If Chris don't want that, I won't do it again.
But it's form my understanding that softwares evolve not only by devotion and creativity from the people that writes them, but also by looking at what the others are doing too. Any programmer have the right to not implement in their program someone's else idea, that is a decision that only them can make. But asking for the users to not discuss other software in the forum, is, pardon me but a little over the top.
Maybe creating another forum thread like "Other stuff" would be appropriate in this case.
And like I said, when I posted this topic in the first place, it was an OPINION, NOT like a feature request. I don't want Chris "loosing" time on something that isn't essential to Celestia's Development, since it has already a very good graphic engine.
Celestia and Desktop Dreamscapes are two distinc software, and they don't do the same thing because they don't have the same goals. So therefore I don't think it's a bad idea to look what's done out there. It can only be more profitable for the community, in the end. Sure, if someone had to implement everything that users are requesting in their program, that wouldn't be a very practical thing do to. But then again, having opinions and suggestions is very important I believe, even if it's not to be implemented.
I'm a graphic designer, and taking a look at what rival graphic design compagnies are doing is important because you can improve your own ideas by comparision, or take their idea and do something completely new, creating something that you didn't even thinked before. It's essential I believe. It tell's you a lot of things about what's been done and what will. Having your head in sand sand like an ostrich is not an option here.
That said, I' m sorry if I have offended anyone here (including Chris) by talking about another software here. It's is universe and I wont do it again, even if I don't entirely agree with this sort of thinking.
Anyway, have a good day everyone and enjoy the creativity of our programmers! :)
