My PC:

XP service pack 2
AMD Athlon dual core 3800
1 GIG RAM
nVidia GeForce 7350 LE , 128 MB , driver 163.75

I recently installed Celestia 1.5.0pre4 and have encountered this small annoyance. The following is a post from Fridger that describes exactly the "bug" (as found in 1.5.0pre3)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Just noticed a bug in the --fullscreen mode of 1.5.0pre3 and the latest Windows CVS version that Chris has just committed (automag =ON)

In --fullscreen mode (and only there!):

If I click on an object (Moon, Apollo 11,Earth...) with the RIGHT mouse button, the usual info dialog is displayed. However, to the right of it, another "mirror" dialog is also displayed, which in addition to the same text features a faint black line pattern.

The Linux-KDE version is fine.

Bye Fridger

Any suggestions??
Thanks!
Michael

I tried to change the flare. It does not seem that this jpg is being used? I changed the jpg and finally removed it and could not see any difference. If you have seen my previous post, if appears that my troubles may be with the new driver????

Indeed the flare image is not being used in pre4.

Is this a bug or a cool feature?

Hi all!

Hehe, glad to see Celestia is still under development. I've been folowing the website for some time now, but I noticed the version won't avance..
Glad I checked the forum!

Why don't you upload on the main website? Is it because it's a pre-release?

Celestia 1.5.0 doesn't work properly on Vista

Post #68by Bryan_See » 15.12.2007, 04:19

Hello,

I am Bryan See, and I've followed the link to this Celestia site two years ago from the English Wikipedia.

I've installed Celestia 1.5.0 on my Vista machine, and it does not work as OpenGL is not a stand alone library under Windows Vista. Instead it functions as a wrapper around DirectX, and is frozen to the vanilla version of OpenGL 1.4.

This means that Celestia in Windows Vista will, most likely, suffer from severe performance loss, that, when an OpenGL driver is loaded, my operating system will have odd behaviours and that future versions of OpenGL will not affect my platform (as of now there is a future version of OpenGL that doesn't affect my system, possibly 3.0 or a Vista compatible OpenGL ICD, but I wonder where I can get my Vista compatible OpenGL ICD). This would result in less developers (like the Celestia development team) actively supporting OpenGL, and as a result, less applications written which are easy to port to another platform or easy to maintain.

Hi Bryan_See,
You may want to look at this thread. There are those that can use Celestia with Vista. http://www.celestiaproject.net/forum/viewtopic ... 4315#94315

Bryan,

If you haven't already done so, update your graphics drivers from the Web site of the company that makes your card. There should be no loss of performance when using current graphics drivers provided by the graphics hardware companies.

Major 3rd party companies using OpenGL, like Autodesk, persuaded Microsoft to reconsider and allow direct access to the libraries.

I've already updated my graphics drivers for my ATI Radeon 9550 video card, but I'm still having problems. Celestia freezes upon startup while initializing OpenGL. I still need a legacy or Vista-compatible OpenGL ICD driver to run it.

Now that pre5 is out, does this thread need to be sticky?
