Addon probems - textures not displaying.

Hello,

I've recently downloaded a set of addons for Celestia that I'm having a bit of difficulty dealing with.

They are the Christmas Tree Cluster (and the associated Cone Nebula), the Pelican Nebula, The Carina Nebula, and a few others. On some of the addons (I've unzipped them and placed the files in the "extras" folder), the texture doesn't display at all (is totally transparent with slight hint of where the image should be), and on others (like the Pelican Nebula), the spot where the nebula should be is replaced by a near-white square with very little transparency. I am running a video card with 128MB onboard memory plus running 1GB RAM as well as a 2GhZ processor, and still running into problems.

I've tried installing the addons to both Celestia 1.4.1 and 1.5.0 pre3 with the same results.


Any idea what might be causing this?

I've even tried resizing the image, saving it as a different format (from *.png to *.jpg and vice versa, or to *.dds) with no luck.

The symptoms you report are consistent with Celestia not being able to load the image texture files (e.g. not finding them at all) and/or buggy graphics drivers.

Check Celestia's console log for error messages.
Type a tilde (~) to turn it on and off, use the arrow keys to navigate in it.

Also, install the most recent drivers available for your graphics hardware. They're available for free downloading from the Web site of the manufacturer of your computer and/or the manufacturer of its graphics chipset.
