Unfortunately, you're going to have to provide a copy of the Addon that causes the crash.

I am unable to cause Celestia to crash with the versions of the OA dominion maps that I have, but they are quite different from what you're showing. I have an Nvidia card, too. It's my guess that something in the AMD/ATI graphics drivers is unhappy with the new code.

Should I send you a zip copy, Selden? It is only 325KB in its current form. I could send it to the Motherlode, but it could be a couple of weeks before it would get posted, and it isn't really ready yet anyway.

There is a big bug in the pre3 when you decreasing the FOV (increasing the "zoom"):

Here in 3 steps:

I want to see a far galaxy from the earth for exemple, no problem here.
Image

I increase the "zoom" at his limit ...
Image

... but if I increase again, the FOV is displayed not correctly, it is "buggy" ...
Image

I haven't tested in other versions of Celestia but I think this bug was not known before.

How do you increase the magnification past the limit?

I think it's a problem in the language localization code.

The FOV display looks fine at maximum magnification on my US English version of Celestia.

.
Never mind: I figured out one way: just shrink the window.

It also looks fine in my German Language 1.5.0pre3 version under Windows as well as in my US English version under Linux-KDE.

So I also conclude, it's a bug related to internationalization.

I get the same bug in the english version.

In fact, you must continue to increase the zoom (i use the Shift + Left drag) even if you are at the limit of FOV.

Hmm. I managed to persuade it to show the bad text output and then it stopped responding. Certainly there's a bug there somewhere! :)

I think I've experienced something similar, once and last year. I suspect too there's a small bug with the FOV code.

I also can reproduce the bug now. I'll have a look tomorrow.

I put the rthovald??s Sun in the Extras folder. But I had put another alternate texture in Extras and the same problem happened.

But in Basic and Multitexture, looks OK:

The Sun does not work properly in 1.5, it was not made for it.
An update will be along eventually, but not until after 1.5 Final is out.

Just noticed a bug in the --fullscreen mode of 1.5.0pre3 and the latest Windows CVS version that Chris has just committed (automag =ON)

In --fullscreen mode (and only there!):

If I click on an object (Moon, Apollo 11,Earth...) with the RIGHT mouse button, the usual info dialog is displayed. However, to the right of it, another "mirror" dialog is also displayed, which in addition to the same text features a faint black line pattern.

The Linux-KDE version is fine.

In the image on the left, you see a clear signature of the "edge waves" that have been discovered recently by the Cassini team ;-)

Seriously, how about activating some amount of anti-aliasing? You may also try to enlarge

RingSystemSections 100

to some higher value in celestia.cfg.

Here is how the similar image looks in my 1.5.0pre3 version with standard settings and AA=2x:

Looking, however, at your rhs image, I think you got a problem with your graphics card (driver). Saturn looks as beautiful in my machine with 1.5.0pre3 as it was with celestia 1.4.1.

I'm not seeing this problem with the Windows version on my GeForce 8800. Can anyone else reproduce it? Fridger, is it possible to get a screenshot of the problem?

Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to be possible, otherwise I had provided a screenshot right away. The info dialogs vanish whenever I approach the (hidden) menue bar on top.

I get the effect with your "official" 1.5.0pre3 binary and the latest driver for my 7300 NVIDIA card in fullscreen...
Note: Fullscreen ONLY!

So you don't see the effect with pre2? What about the latest CVS code?

I can't reproduce this bug either with the latest CVS code.
I've not tested 1.5pre3 yet...

I took the handy camera and made a screendump of the effect. See the darker mirror image of the info dialog on the right?
Image

The quality is bad due to the light conditions. But the essence should be obvious.

Note: I get the effect equally in the official 1.5.0pre3 by Chris and in my own VS++.net 2003 compile of the latest CVS. No idea about 1.5.0pre2. And most importantly: fullscreen only!

Also: Celestia was started with the command line option --fullscreen! Not by choosing the resolution equal to the screen resolution in the menue.
The effect vanishes as soon as I return to windowed (fullscreen) mode with ALT+ENTER!

I could try my dual boot Windows with my old FX5900 card...

Just checked with the official 1.5.0pre3 release (Italian), fullscreen, Automag ON, but the bug isn't there, neither with planets and moons, nor with spacecrafts. 8O
