Noob addons question

Post #1by MikeBlyth » 22.05.2007, 08:21

I just found Celestia a few days ago and am amazed at such a beautiful, capable and free program! No better example of the power of a programming community working together.

I have tried adding a few addons (3dMars, Risa, Voyager) but the program locks up whenever I go to the new objects. The ones I've tried say in the readme that I should simply copy the entire (unzipped) folder into the celestia/extras folder, so it seems pretty simple. I'm using Ubunutu with the Celestia for that package.

1) Are there some obvious gotchas I should be aware of?
2) Are there some known-to-work-well addons I should try first, so I can start learning?
3) How else to start debugging? (Existing posts, articles ...)

Thanks.

When you run celestia without the addons try clicking on help => open gl info and paste results. You should also post your system specs. Ram, video card, processor, etc.

With OpenGL Info you should see something like this depending on the video card your using.

Code: Select all

Vendor: NVIDIA Corporation
Renderer: GeForce 8600 GTS/PCI/SSE2
Version: 2.1.1 NVIDIA 100.14.03
Max simultaneous textures: 4
Max texture size: 8192

Point size range: 1.000000 - 63.375000
Supported Extensions:
