Help with some addon cloud weirdness

Hi folks.
I don't know if this is tedious beginner stuff, but looking around I can't seem to find a solution. Sorry if Ive missed something obvious.

I've downloaded some hi-res earth textures and they are the sort that sit in /textures and not /extras
The high res earth works fine, but when I try to add a high res cloud layer to compliment it (this Harold Schmidt one, this happens:

hmm. The other dds based cloud layer addon produces the same result.
I'm using Celestia 1.4.1 (win XP) on an athlon 64 3800 with an on-board nvidia 6100 chip. Some other things don't work properly like normal maps and night lights either, but the default textures render correctly otherwise.

any help to be had would be most appreciated
cheers

Did you set CloudSpeed to 0?
That's required for oversized cloud textures and for VT clouds to work properly.
Strange things happen if you don't do that.

Otherwise, it sould seem that you may have discovered a bug in the graphics drivers :(

p.s. one way to do this is to include an SSC file in your extras folder containing the following text:

Code: Select all

Modify "Earth" "Sol" {Atmosphere {CloudSpeed 0 }}

p.p.s. You might be able to use drivers from Nvidia's site, but most onboard chipsets require drivers modified by the manufacturer of the system. They should be available on their Web site.

Yeah Cloudspeed was always at zero.
After your suggestion I rolled back to the drivers that came with the board and now everything works fine. So thanks very much!
just F.G.I; the supplied drivers don't appear to be altered from the regular nvidia release (but I wouldn't really know). The problem occured while running the recent forceware v93.71. Rolling back to the supplied v. 81.98 made everything work nice. P'raps a case of a marginal chipset being overlooked in open GL support? (he says stabbing in the dark)

Cheers

p.s. I should clarify. when I say everything works fine I mean textures and clouds render correctly. Night lights and bump/normal maps still don't work, but I'm not too worried about that.

thanks again
