I had seen several people with new systems with 2 or EVEN 4 GB of RAM.Since I can??t change my system until the middle of 2008,I would like to know if Celestia is still OK to display high res textures and models, using "only" 1 GB of RAM.
It seems that the paradigm of computers in the forum has changed, but still I don??t have money to buy an upgrade...

For the display of Celestia, it's mainly the RAM in your graphics card that matters. Your 128MB are a little short. But then you just have to use a somewhat lower texture resolution or VT's and you are fine.

In my opinion 1GB for the CPU is on the low side since quite some time for people who really USE their machine for calculations, notably calculations related to images. For ENDUSERS 1GB is probably OK ;-) . As to myself, I could barely use my machine if it only had 1 GB...I don't use it only for pleasure, though and the calculations I have to do are very involved and storage intensive. So for me >=3GB is a must.
Even my 2.0 GHz Core 2 Duo notebook has 2 GB of RAM.

My dealer sells 1GB of RAM for around 100 Euro ~ 120 $. Since his brand is fast and high quality you can certainly get 1 GB for less. That's not THAT much! You certainly don't need a new computer for adding RAM. It's just a click (in your computer) and you got twice as much RAM (after buying 1GB first, of course)

ACTUALLY,I have a 256 MB 7600 GT PCI-E,now,that should be more than enough for a while.I think I can display up to 16k in jpg or png single textures and up tp 64k textures in VT,without problem.Am I right?
About the 2 GB,I am in Brazil and things here are more expensive, and I don??t have a scholarship for a while,so having the money is too difficult because I have to cut many things...and the bug problem is:my computer is 939 and I have to buy a "939" DDR RAM memory. But if I sell my computer 1 and a half year from now, probably,I will have to buy a "AM2" DDR2 memory and I don??t know it??s worth a while...
