I follow for years Celestia development and I always wonder why special things, special tools on selected object couldn't be available directly in the program without writing script, for instance througt pop-up menu :
When you have selected Earth (or Mars, Moon...) it will be very interesting to deal with the planet from your orbit position :
-you can show a latitude and longitude grid, meridian reference in bold, equator line brought out
You can show equatorial plane
- you can point area on surface and then the program flash the area in color, the area could be continent, country...
-why not show rotation axe with precesion and nutation course during a long time?
-we can imagine also a vector that show you rotation direction (sometimes it's useful)
and more probably...!
Well, I program myself sometimes, and I know imagination go always faster that programmation, consider this as suggestions. I want to post this message because I have th feeling of a great lack in Celestia: Celestia as a easy tool for spatial demonstration. This could be a great thing for educational purposes, couldn't be? Imagine that Celestia in one click can show Earth 3D Scheme to show differents Earth Layers? This could be an exciting reason to go from a planet to another and then visit our universe thanks to Celaestia
