Eclipse shadows in Mac version?

Wow, what an amazing piece of free software! I've been playing with Celestia on an iMac g3 600 (OS 10.1.5), and I love it!
Unfortunately I can't get eclipse shadows to show up. When I use the key combination Control-E, instead of toggling shadows on & off I move closer to the object (as if I pressed the Home key). Anyone else experience this or know of a workaround?
Also, is there a way to go directly to a chosen date, other than speeding up time until you get there?
