Re: Post your Celestia pictures!
A gas giant in Delta Trianguli's habitable zone I've had for about a month now. It has 21 moons. The SSC for the entire moon system was created in just an hour and a half, using the modified SSC generator to output data used from AstroSynthesis (I'm pretty sure others can make much more SSC than that at a much faster rate). Unfortunately, AstroSynthesis likes to exaggerate numbers (orbit inclinations and eccentricities, among others), so some digits were deleted and some were added when I manually copy/pasted the data from AstroSynthesis into the SSC generator's data entry fields.
Someone asked a while back if AstroSynthesis bases gas giant moon generation on the moon systems of the gas giants in this solar system. Judging by the orbits I see in the last screenshot above, I believe it does, to a point.
While I admit the rings kinda look like Saturn's, I actually used a picture of a pet cat as the source to create the rings.

That is one dizzy kitty....looks very cool, though.
I use AstroSynth alot as well. It helps when you're trying to fill in other systems where only info for one planet is given. For example, I used it for my version of Anne McCaffrey's Rukhbat system (from Dragonrider's of Pern). The irritating thing about it can be the excessive overlap between moons, ring systems in wierd places, and moons well inside the Roche limit.
Anyway, I haven't posted a pic, so here's what I've been working on....

Re: Post your Celestia pictures!
I've actually been considering posting a tutorial in the Tutorials subforum on how to turn just about anything from daily life into planet rings.Tegmine wrote:That is one dizzy kitty....looks very cool, though.
Although I feel I should have more practice before actually posting a tutorial.
That's why I take the time to modify the numbers before having the SSC Generator output the data. The irritating thing about it can be the excessive overlap between moons, ring systems in wierd places, and moons well inside the Roche limit.
A general rule of thumb I follow when it comes to gas giants is based on what we know about the gas giants in this solar system is that the closest moons, the ones inside the roche limit, are minor moons, the middle moons are the large moons, and the outer moons are again minor moons, smaller than the ones close to the planet.
Of course, things may get stale after doing it that way for a while, but that's life.
EDIT: Here's a picture of the Avatar system I'm working on. I didn't like any of the Avatar addons available on the Motherlode, so I figured I'd create my own version, one that's as close to James Cameron's vision as I could.
In this picture, I'm working on a night map for Pandora. I figure that some of the bioluminescence may be visible from space.
Yes, Polyphemus is too white; yes, it will be fixed.

Are you referring to Rassillon's SSC Generator, or do you know of something else?

I guess I have a couple things to fix on the the largest gas giant in the Rukhbat system!
I was wanting to do an addon for Polyphemus as well, but didn't get enough info on it. Looking forward to what you come up with...

Hello. My first planet made with Planetgen. Best I can do for now. Hope you like.

My own take on the beginning of Avatar. (I should've used the 2 million stars stars.dat for this picture. )
A world I made, devoted to my favorite animal: cats.

Re: Post your Celestia pictures!
Luther, for a first time out, that looks pretty nice!
Wish my first attempt looked half as good as that. (It was a trainwreck.)

99 999 stars viewed from a planet located on M82 ! I took few months to discover how to make them match with the galactic plane but the is the final result!
Re: Post your Celestia pictures!
Another world. So many of them out there !
"Well! I've often seen a cat without a grin", thought Alice; "but a grin without a cat! It's the most curious thing I ever saw in all my life!"
Re: Post your Celestia pictures!
From some up-coming addons.
Re: Post your Celestia pictures!
Hi! Are that standalone cockpits for Celestia's users or bridge views from spaceships hulls?
Never at rest.
