In looking at the full size jpg file from Wiki, yes, they are the same place... see the building in the far left background of Christophe's picture verses the building in the background just to the right of the shrine? However, my father now wonders if there is a similar shrine in Nagasaki perhaps?... he'd not been to Hiroshima.

There are several of these "wtf it's in the water!" arches scattered all over Japan.
For example, there's at least one in the giant lake near Kyoto, and another in the big lake
near the famous Hakone hot springs (the lake where you get to ride in a pirate ship!).
Here's a link with a picture: Lake Ashi (Hakone)

If you're talking about the picture of the shinto torii that's in the middle of the water, I call the Itsukushima shrine (world heritage site) in Hiroshima - am I correct Christophe?

Yes it's right. I have been there as well.

Yes, that's the one. All the pictures taken on that day (Aug. 14th) were taken on Miyajima. It's a must see if you're in Hiroshima, especially on the day of the firework, the place was crowded!

Thanks, I've just bought the camera and I'm quite happy with the result. It's amazing what you can do with a small compact camera these days.

LordFerret wrote:I showed them to my father, he's been to Japan (spent 2 years there, mid-1949 through mid-1951) and plans on a return trip one of these days. He operated out of Yokasuka, and spent time in Tokyo, Kamakura, Nagasaki, and Sasebo.

Well, it's probably a world apart from what the place was over fifty years ago, it would be quite an experience for him to go back now.

Yes, that's true, Fridger. I'm kind of a self made man.
I've learnt quite a few things by myself (sound engineering, playing the guitar...).
However, I think that you all overestimate my abilities in OGL, and in coding in genaral. I would rather agree with Christophe: learning and practising things in a professional context really makes a difference, particularly about OGL and coding.
