Today, I made a small experiment that turned out to be very interesting. I'll probably make an addon from this.
The impact on the frame rate is pretty high, though, since there are three large sprites models superposed.

Take note that there isn't any texture used in these models. Just sprites...

A long while ago, I saw an image on deviantart that featured a user's fictional rendition of the Kepler-16 system in Celestia, and was inspired by his image to make a bunch of similar images involving Delta Tri, although admittably nowhere near as dramatic.

The first three, I attempted to be realistic, where the second three were a bit more artistic, so to speak.

In the mean-time, I gave Belle Hades a huge overhaul, replacing the cloudmap and significantly improving the surface texture, including bumping it up to 4k. Clouds are still 2k though. I love my cloud rotations.




Yes, that line of dots is exactly what you think it is: Geostationary satellites! . Thank you asteroid maker! The green star in the pic is a background planet.


Also, two of the pics in this post may have slightly bad quality; stupid imgur converted them to .jpg without my consent.

How have you made it ? Textures on a mesh ?

EDIT : some stars are visible on the texture, so it's not really 3D. If you move inside, you'll feel the texture mapped on a curvy mesh.

This spectacular view is from Earth. I had this in a dream last night. What the dream was about, was that It was the world was gonna end. There were coming a hail of comets towards Earth. A few hours before it happened, you could look up in the sky and see this. In the dream, I were standing outside with my parents and many other, outside my house, and we were looking on 4 comets in the sky. At the north sky. There were said that the comet ISON caused this event, that it would happen in November this year.

I'm trying to do better "generic" planetary nebulae to distribute in the Milky Way :

Galactic scale nebula in NGC 404. Huge primordial (Orion-like) nebula all across the galaxy :



Celestia's standard galactic model is turned OFF on both pictures.

An accretion disk experiment that gave an interesting result :

Better accretion disk. Red hot !

Dust ring experiment with sprites. Very different rendering than the last pictures I've shown...

It's the first time I try to use plain opaque disks (i.e. non-blurry) to simulate big rocks and grains.

Hey Cham, congratulations, your sprites rocks look very exciting.
I'm imaging them, white in color, moving within Saturn rings, and so on.

Yes, I intend to release the planet with dust rings, as a small addon for Fomalhaut (star with an accretion disk of dust).

Probably in the next few days...
