I *really* need to get one of those freeware mesh-makers and learn it, though. Any suggestions on a good one for Celestia?

The oblateness of Altair is already accounted for in nearstars.stc included with 1.4.0pre5. Props to Grant!

Oh, you're right! That is NICE! Also, I just found the brown dwarf in the Xi Ursae Majoris system. VERY nice! I hadn't realized that the L-class was supported. Are other atypical spectral types supported as well?

little correction

Post #23by brunetto_64 » 03.11.2004, 21:41

this release is very good, with the multiple stars...
a little correction for the people that have the alpha centauri system file addon of Dollan... in the ssc file you must replace the "Alpha Centauri A" with "Alf Cen A" and you must place in Extras the Evil Dr's (... :P :P ...no no errors!) Centauri stc file....ok?

OOh. The new version is very spiffy.

(EDIT: was a possible bug note here, but I moved it to the bugs board)

I take it multiple star system temperature calculations have not been implemented yet: example system: .stc file

Barycenter "Iapetos" {
RA 135.4
Dec -83.8
Distance 10000
}

"Iapetos A" {
OrbitBarycenter "Iapetos"
SpectralType "B2Ia"
AbsMag -3.4
EllipticalOrbit {
SemiMajorAxis 0.005
Eccentricty 0.93
Period 500
}
}

"Iapetos B" {
OrbitBarycenter "Iapetos"
SpectralType "M6V"
AbsMag 18.5
EllipticalOrbit {
SemiMajorAxis 190
Eccentricity 0.93
Period 500
}
}

and .ssc

"Hades" "Iapetos B" {
Radius 5000
Texture "europa.*"
EllipticalOrbit {
SemiMajorAxis 1.1
Period 0.5
}
}

"Hephaestos" "Iapetos A" {
Radius 5000
Texture "io.*"
EllipticalOrbit {
SemiMajorAxis 20
Period 15
}
}

Temperature of Hephaestos (in orbit around Iapetos A) at ~20 AU from Iapetos A = 486K
Temperature of Hades (in orbit around Iapetos B) at ~20 AU from Iapetos A = 19K
