About the Celestia 1.3.2 and its Geforce FX mode,of course it?s a failure to don?t have almost any improvement with this new mode of rendering.I understand that you want Celestia to be acessible for everyone, but it have to be any advantage to people that use GF FX,who has advanced shading procedures comparing to Geforce 4,for example.

I am a total newbe in celestia and its forums. I know nothing about programming lenguages, scripts and the rest. But from your message I see that you must know quite a few things about the new technologies that are incorporated in the latest graphic cards. So why don't YOU suggest Chris and the rest of the developers HOW to implement these new shading / rendering procedures into Celestia.
As far as I am concerned, Celestia is the BEST PIECE OF SOFTWARE EVER DEVELOPED. Even with no add-ons it looks great. And remember: IT IS FREE. Let's help those people who melt their eyes in front of their monitors to be able to offer this wonderful virtual universe by offering constructive criticism -not negative criticism. I should leave it here now. I think Mr. B. Hegwood has covered the topic perfectly. Sorry for my bad english.

This new version looks great, the font change is quite nice.

Not having actually seen Saturn as it would look close up, I'm used to seeing it a bit more saturated - is the supplied texture more visually accurate?

The now-familiar Cassini images are colour- and contrast-enhanced. The present Celestia texture is Bj?rn J?nsson's, and you can read his reasons for using relatively low saturations here.

In Celestia 1.3.2 pre 7,the Pegasus constelation is drawn incorrectly. And I think there are problems with some DDS textures.I tried to put the Realistic-Earth4k.DDS and the planet appeared black with green lights.Maybe the file is old

Just differently. There's no "correct" way to draw constellations, and there are many different interpretations.

True, and if you really consider it, the Constellations themselves used to be figments of imaginations. Today they are in text books as guides to help amatures like me figure out where different stars. Heck, I still like to imagine the different "shapes and things".

I'm still working on it . . . I've done some work on eclipse shadows that I'm quite happy with, and the specular highlights on Earth's oceans are sharper and free of tessellation artifacts.

I don't think this has been mentioned yet, but maybe some people will find it helpful:
You can now use absolute paths in celestia.cfg. However you have to escape (double) backslashes, for example you would have to write:

Code: Select all

ExtrasDirectories  [ "d:\\Celestia\\extra-data" ]

or you have to use the Unix-convention and use "/" (Windows apparently accepts both)

Code: Select all

ExtrasDirectories  [ "d:/Celestia/extra-data" ]

This should help keeping the program and the data seperate (but it's still a bad idea to keep VTs on FAT-formatted drives for performance reasons 80 )
