oooh... Sweeet... Yes, the pixel shaders version does definitely look more realistic!
But let's see... Is it really worth getting a new graphics card, just to see ring shadows?
Yes!

Oh yes, Saturn sure looks sweet when viewing the Pioneer 11 flyby....but I'm getting a much slower frame rate than usual. I daren't even attempt viewing it with antialiasing set at 8x !

Hi Kendrix,
Thanks for this beautifull mods. Now I can not unterstand why the high polygon rings not standard in Celestia. Only peformance reasons... , Chris ? Maybe a little switch at the render menu convince Chris to include this feature to base Celestia.
Another point is the shadow texture. Saturn's shadow looks with 1k still pixelated around the edges. I don't think this can be solved only with a large texture. I suggest a to use a gray scaled texture which can smooth this edges. Kendrix is it possible to say Celestia to load the shadow texture from the medres folder?
Have you enabled LUA in your 'exe' (not tested so far) ?
Bye Jens

I'm not sure for LUA... I think I've read a post in which they said LUA is activated in the latest CVS... So perhaps in my version...
For the shadow texture it's not a loaded texture but a procedural one.
In fact with 4k it should be really nice but the best solution I think would be a combination of texxture size and a grey fade

Ah! I thought this KCelestia was for people that cannot see the shadows in the planet in the normal version...
