Don't forget to check for updates for your build environment.
And for library updates (libpng, libtiff, lipzip,...)

This may be a known issue, but I don't see it in this thread: I'm not seeing any Night Side Lights on earth in this 1.6.0rc1.

32 bit Vista with ATI Radeon X1270 (if that makes a difference).

Have you made any recent changes to your graphics properties?
Have you searched the HELP forum? -- specifically, this post may be of some help: viewtopic.php?f=15&t=13397

Did you:

-- toggle CTRL+L (night-lights on/off )
-- use the latest driver for your graphics card (older ATI drivers are often BUGGY)!
-- examine your rendering path (CTRL+V), it should be OpenGl 2.0 if possible

I see night-lights without problems with 1.6.0rc1 under Windows XP SP3 (and Linux).

Thank you for you quick answer...

-- toggle CTRL+L (night-lights on/off )
That doesn't seem to make a difference. (It works fine on this machine with 1.5.1, btw.)
-- use the latest driver for your graphics card (older ATI drivers are often BUGGY)!
I was not using the latest driver. I upgraded, and now the superimposed text is blurry in Celestia (in 1.5.1 as well). Still no night lights. D'oh!

-- examine your rendering path (CTRL+V), it should be OpenGl 2.0 if possible
I don't see night lights under any of the modes. When on OpenGL 2.0, I see white artifacts where the atmosphere touches space. Turn off atmo and it cleans up.

Obviously, I have some ATI driver issues on this machine.

Interestingly, I just upgraded to 1.6.0 RC3, and all the strange artifacts (blurry text, white artifacts on edge of atmospheres) went away completely. It looks beautiful now.

I don't know who fixed what, but thank you.
