Everything true, but still there is a significant difference between the bugs in Celestia and those in MS or Apple products: Celestia is a FREE community effort, while MS and Apple are highly commercial, making their customers pay first and then serve as beta testers ;-)

Absolutely true.
We can add that the use of consumers as beta testers is a method used by almost every big software house, e.g. imaging softwares (PhotoShop etc.) and most of games (last of them, Chrysis).
It's an easy and cheap way to reach a good quality before releasing, but at least in the above examples all the stuff was FREE of charge, not PAID by customers like MS and APPLE OS.

SHAME ON THEM!!!

OK, your are proving my point:
it is not specific Microsoft that does this,
it is far more general.
I also think that companies are bringing out product 's too fast,
fortunately, in general, the updates are free.

As far as Celestia is concerned, nobody has the right to complain,
because it is open and free.

Photoshop had free beta testing?! I didn't know that.

Anyway, even MS and Apple beta test their OS software although they are usually closed betas by developers only. And we all know how highly representative us developers are of all users.

Another remarkable politics could be that of this project:

http://moi3d.com/

where the developer (a Rhino developer) has a commercial work in progress of the own 3d modeller and give from time to time to the users all the beta versions (time limited about 3 months) of the program (Win) for free, until he will decide when will be ready to sell it (see the forum).
Never at rest.

Change of plans...
I will suffer JUST a little bit... :( I will buy ANOTHER thing and no longer will have a dual core right now.
I have the intention to have one around March or April 2008,if I am lucky!
