Nebulae coordinates?

Post #1by ourselfish » 13.12.2007, 06:02

to run the complete risk of sounding like a newbie, can anyone help me find some nebulae? i would love to visit the crab nebula the horse head nebula and others, is there a web page that would list the coordinates of such celestial features? or tell me a way to locate them?

such as:

The Helix Nebula (NGC 7293)

I honestly can't remember if celestia comes with nebula already built in.
I suggest downloading and installing nebula add-ons. It's worth it!

Then you need to add them.

ourselfish,

The only way to be sure about the names of objects included in an Addon is to read the Addon's catalogs.

.SSC (Solar System Catalog)
.STC (STar Catalog) and
.DSC (Deep Space Catalog) files are all plain text. You can use Notepad, Wordpad or your favorite text editor to examine their contents.

Before you do anything else, check the "render" options at the top
of Celestia while it's running. Then, click on "View Options", then
make certain that the "Nebulae" box is checked. If it isn't, you won't
see BEANS.

Hope that helps.
